I've recently returned from another trip to India. Each time that I travel, God gives me more favor there. This trip was no different.
On day five, myself and a team member, went to pray for a seriously ill orphan that was in the hospital. We sat on her bed for a couple hours just singing worship songs over her, changing the atmosphere from hopeless to hopeful. At one point I looked in the opposite direction of the room to see a line standing at the foot of the orphan's bed. They were family members of other hospital patients who wanted us to pray for their loved ones.
Kissing the orphan's forehead, we moved from bed to bed, praying for those in distress. Everyone we prayed for felt instant relief and in some cases we could see instant results (more blogs to come.)
One woman was having chest pains. She told us that she had two daughters at home, and one of them was mute. She was a Hindu and explained that she offered many things to her gods but nothing was changing for her daughter. She was full of anxiety and in clear physical pain. After listening to her, we prayed with her for a couple minutes. All of the physical pain she was in completely left her body. She asked us how it was possible that she felt this instant difference. We shared about our God, Jesus, and the power He has. I explained the free gifts that come with Jesus when you choose to follow only Him, having no other gods. She immediately said that because we came to pray for her, and showed up at the hospital, and she felt her pain go away, that when she went home she was going to throw all of her idols into the river and put photos of Jesus on her walls instead. I then led her through the prayer of accepting Jesus into her heart.
It was an incredible time of ministry!
Matthew 11:29-30, (the words of Jesus)
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.
Ministry is supposed to be easy! We are supposed to love one another while sharing the truth, and each person has the free will to accept or deny that truth. Jesus never forced Himself onto other people. He never relentlessly demanded that a person must follow Him. He gave them opportunity and then let them choose. And that is how outreach should be. When you are at war, there is always a winner and loser. But Jesus loves to see circumstances where everyone is the winner, and a "war" of debate over truth is not going to have a win-win outcome.
If you want to make a change, big or small, just love people the way Jesus would. Allow the Holy Spirit to work on your behalf, as you love, and together we can see more idols thrown into the river!
