Most people in life are in search for their identity. We start high school and begin to explore ourselves as individiuals. We head to college and the search continues but goes even deeper. As adults, when life events happen (usually something tramatic), we once again go in search of ourselves. But who are we? At the end of the day, how do we find our identity.
I want to encourage you that you are here because it's God's delight! How do I know that? The Bible always has all the answers...
Let's look at Ephesians 1: 4-11. In these sections you will find verses that start with "In Him" (or similar depending on your translation.) You can substitute "In Him" with "I am" and you will see your exact identity. Our identity is in Christ. It's IMPERATIVE we learn our real identity and not look to the world for who we are! This is why the identity search never ends for some people. It's only when you come to the conclusion of who you are in Christ that you will be satisfied and have no further need to look.
LEARNING THIS WILL SET YOU FREE!
You will never again feel the need to compare yourself to others, live up to anyone's earthly expectation, or strive to meet a seemly unattainable goal to achieve earthly possessions.
Let me break this down for you. Right out of the Bible, Paul, sitting in prision, wants the universal church to know WHO they are. And yes, this still means YOU!
* God's chosen
* God's son/daughter
* Pleasing to God
* Favored by God
* Wise & understood - worthy
* Inherited by God
* Stamped with God's personal seal
The Bible doesn't say that only the "good" people have these attributes. ALL PEOPLE have these characteristics.
Sit and really reflect on each of those. Read them in the Bible for yourself.
The God, Who created every single living thing - the God Who put every star into the sky - the God Who put His own breath into the first man on earth is telling you that He favors YOU! He chose YOU! YOU are pleasing to Him! Isn't that so beyond amazing?!
Your existence means God has already inherited you into His family. He calls you His own. When you are able to understand the magnitude of that, nothing else really matters. You will never care about not fitting in because you fit in with the God who is over all of creation.
God is smiling at you right now!
Take some quiet time to read this list again. Believe that every single one of these beautiful attributes really does apply to you. God isn't calling us to be perfect. God won't comdemn you for your past actions. He just wants you to know who you are. He wants a relationship with you. God is such a good Father that your past doesn't matter. He wants to give you your inheritance.
