I want to take a look at the phrase "there is power in the name of Jesus." We know He was God in the form of man, which is powerful itself. But I'm speaking about the reason we need to close a prayer with His name, we say His name out loud in times of need, and unfortunately some people use His name as a curse word.
The name Jesus literally means The Lord is salvation. The hebrew root means rescue/deliver. We are calling to the Son of God who has the power to rescue and deliver us from all things in any circumstance.
But I want to go deeper...
If we go to the book Song of Solomon and read this as if it's a love song between God and ourselves we can get deeper revelation. In verse 1:3 "...Your name is perfume poured out" When we speak the very name of Jesus we get to pour out His power into our environment! He changes the very space that we are standing in. But this is not a regular outpouring. It's GOD's outpouring. His outpouring is thick like fragranced oil.
When oil come into contact with living things, those things are forever changed. Imagine a thick oil being poured out onto a rose bush. Although the weight of the oil on the bush will make it droop, it now has a protective covering. The bugs can no longer eat of the rose petals. The thorns become supple. What might look weak from the outside has actually been protected and made stronger.
We are made stronger when we use His name. By saying "Jesus" out loud, we call upon Him to protect us, to deliver us, to rescue us. In that moment when we speak, we cover ourselves and those around us with His thick protecting oil. The oil that seals in all the promises of His word.
Speak the name of Jesus out loud every day. Say it in every room of your house. Say it in your work place. Say it in your car. His very name is our protection!
